Fort Myers Video Resume: Get in Front of Local Employers
I’m a construction manager in Fort Myers with about 15 years in the field. A lot of hiring here still happens the old way: somebody knows somebody, a super makes a call, a manager meets you and decides fast. If you don’t have that connection yet, a short video is the next best thing. It lets the person hiring see and hear you before they ever pick up the phone.
This page is for anyone looking for work in Fort Myers and the rest of Lee County. It covers what local employers look for, how to make a video that fits, and the free help you can get nearby.
Who’s hiring in Lee County
Construction is a bigger part of the economy here than in Florida overall. In 2024, construction made up 13.8% of jobs in Lee County, about twice the statewide share of 6.6%. Leisure and hospitality (restaurants, hotels, attractions) was 14.0% of jobs, and education and health services 12.4%, about one in eight.[1]
So if you’re in the trades, you’re in the right place. If you work with people, in a restaurant, hotel, store, clinic, or care facility, there’s a lot of that here too.
What Fort Myers employers want to see
If you’re in the trades: supers and foremen here want your trade and level, your years, your certs (OSHA 10 or 30, your journeyman license and which county or city issued it), the kind of work you’ve done (residential, commercial, remodel), and when you can start. They want to know you’ll show up, work safe, and do it right. Trade-by-trade advice:
If you work with customers or patients: say your role, your availability (weekends and holidays count for a lot in hospitality), and one real example of how you treat people.
If you’re bilingual, say so on camera. About a quarter of Lee County residents age 5 and up (25.8%) speak a language other than English at home.[1] If you speak Spanish or another language, say a line in it. On a jobsite, in a clinic, or at a front desk, that’s worth a lot, and a video proves it in five seconds.
Filming in Fort Myers
- Beat the sun. Midday Florida sun makes harsh shadows and has you squinting. Record in the shade, early morning, or late afternoon, with the light in front of you.
- Use the truck or car, engine and AC off. It’s the quietest place on most jobsites. Windows up, light through the windshield.
- Mind the wind and noise. Turn your back to the wind and get away from generators and traffic.
- Phone upright at eye level. Prop it on the dash or a tailgate. Seenly shows video in a tall, phone-shaped frame.
Full setup: how to make a video resume on your phone. What to say: the five prompts and a script.
